Postpartum Depression vs. Postpartum Anxiety: Signs Every New Mom Should Know

Motherhood changes everything—your routines, your body, your identity, and sometimes, your emotions in ways you didn’t expect. Many moms I work with describe feeling off—tearful one minute, wired the next, and quietly wondering, “Am I doing enough?”

While it’s normal to have ups and downs after birth, postpartum depression (PPD) and postpartum anxiety (PPA) can feel heavier and harder to shake.

Postpartum depression often looks like sadness, emptiness, guilt, or feeling disconnected—from your baby, your partner, or yourself. You might notice you’re going through the motions, but joy feels far away.

Postpartum anxiety can show up as constant worry, racing thoughts, restlessness, or fears about your baby’s safety. It’s as if your brain won’t turn off—even when you know you and your baby are okay.

You deserve support through this. These experiences are incredibly common and absolutely treatable with therapy, community, and time. In our sessions, we focus on grounding your nervous system, reframing unhelpful thoughts, and rebuilding trust in yourself as a mother and a person.

If you’ve been feeling stretched thin or like you’re not yourself lately, please know—this is not your fault, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.
